specky-brian
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the number to use in the directory depth for file system caching. We are running a dedicated server with SSD's in raid. Does it relate to the directory depth of the url and in that case is more better? Thanks
bellini13
The intention is to create and control subdirectories within the cache folder. Some operating systems only allow 'X' number of files to exist in a single folder, or have bad performance if too many files exist within a single folder. So setting this to a higher number should force the creation of more subdirectories, thereby reducing the number of files per folder. You might need to experiment with this value until you find the sweet spot that works for your environment.
specky-brian
Thanks. That makes sense now. I've done some basic testing and there are no limits to the number of files per folder. I'll run some benchmarks with different settings.
El Patron
during your testing, try to uninstall/install some module. do you get strange results? I can turn on this sort of caching, and it's great, but I have to remember to turn it off when working with module in back office.
