Configuring APC on a VPS ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anybody know how to configure APC on a V.P.S ?

I have installed APC and the dashboard is working, but I cannot get Prestashop to use it.

If I set caching in PS to use APC it says its not installed.

If I manually edit config file and set caching to 1, the site continues to work but the B.O is just blank.

I cant figure out the APC.ini and the PHP,ini files.

Currently I have no PHP.ini file on the VPS that I can see (im assuming its hidden)

If I create one in the root dir then APC stops working

(The dashboard doesnt show, and a message says no cache info available, APC does not appear to be running)

So somewhere there is a PHP.ini which is starting it.

This is as far as I can get :(

PHPinfo tells me its using Loaded  /usr/local/lib/php.ini
I cant see that directory on the VPS

What OS are you using? You will require an apache reload usually, try apachectl -k graceful . Also, you dont need to enable APC in prestashop backoffice for it to work, it will cache the php system files anyway if configured correctly, Iam on Ubuntu so i have my files in /etc/php5/conf.d/apc.ini

It can also be in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini  which is probably the php ini file you are looking for.

In case you enable APC in backoffice, make sure you monitor it for a day, i have had problems with it  caching user cache entries and locking up my server.

Maybe user DH42 can help you better , he has more knowledge in the matter.

Hi Indus, thanks for you input.

Im using linux (which I have no idea about) and access the vps using cpanel.

Here is my directory structure

There is no etc or php5 folders

I have already tried creating the php/php.d folder and placed apc.ini in there, and rebooted, but no joy.

Im thinking the main issue could be the php.ini as I cant see that, and when I try to create a new one the apc dashboard tells me apc isnt running :(
