graysonrobb
So I was trying to enable friendly URL's on my site when I got the error "URL rewriting (mod_rewrite) is not active on your server, or it is not possible to check your server configuration. If you want to use Friendly URLs, you must activate this mod." So I searched around and saw a lot of people talking about regenerating their .htaccess file. I logged into my FTP and turned on hidden files and I just don't have that file. Why is that? What are the steps I need to take in order to get my friendly URL's to work. Here is my server information: Server information: Linux #37-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 25 12:51:49 UTC 2012 i686 Server software version: Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) PHP version: 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.8 I am using PS 1.5.6.
indus
Hi If you are on a shared host, you have to ask your host to enable mod_rewrite on your server.
graysonrobb
That did the trick, thank you! If anyone else is using Digital Ocean like me here is how you activate it: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-set-up-mod_rewrite#Section
graysonrobb
Sorry, I jumped the gun on marking this as solved. Once I enabled the mod_rewrite the error did go away. However I still do not have a .htaccess file? Edited February 19, 2014 by graysonrobb (see edit history)
