Images renamed when migrating from 1.4.7.0 to 1.5.6.

Hi,

I am currently migrating from 1.4.7.0 to 1.5.6.

In 1.4.7.0, my images were named as follows :
small
medium
large
thickbox
category
home

After the migration to 1.5.6, the images urls have got a _default extension :
small_default
medium_default
large_default
thickbox_default
category_default
home_default

So, the images are not diplayed on the new FO.

To solve the matter, I guess that there are two solutions :
a- either regenerate all the thumbnails (for several thousands of images)
b- either change, in all tpl files, the image name (by deleting  _default)

In case a :
- the regeneration will take time
- both images (with or without _default) will be on the server, taking some space
- lots of my images are well indexed and ranked by Google; I am afraid that changing their urls will lead to the loss of those main benefits.

In case b :
- what will be the name of the image for items created after the migration (with or without _default) ?


So my questions are the following :
- does anyone know why Prestashop has made such changes ?
- what do you think about the best choice to solve the matter ?
- generally speaking, what is your experience in dealing with the matter ?
