olegirl2000
Hello, I have been using a rather old version of prestashop 1.4.8.3 for a long time. I have been hesitatnt toward installing the 1.5 version for some time, because the last time I attempted to do an update, it did not work. I had to re-install my entire site, which took days upon days and left my business off line for a long, long time.I see that there is a new option to automatically upgrade my software. I've downloaded the ZIP file, am currently backing up my FTP site, have backed up my database (via back office) and my SQL database via my webhosting service. I trust these are the necessary steps to get this going.Again, I'm really really nervous to get this going. I had the time to upload my products last time this didn't work, but I don't any longer, and my [spam-filter] has spent hours adding hundreds of new products to our site, and he would just have a heart attack if our site went down because of this.Could someone please contact me to let me know if this can be done by someone else that is more trustworthy than me??? I can't bear to have my site down again.
El Patron
do you want to pay for this to be done (I wouldn't do it myself either). I can move this to paid services....there are some really sharp upgrade folks that can contact you this way and it (for me anyway) would probably be cheaper to have it done by pro. the.rampage.rado
You can restore your site in few clicks (restore your DP with phpmyadmin and FTP your old site), but for such complex migrations (1.3 to 1.5 and installation of new theme, etc.) I would go for the development site first.Copy your site, make a new DB, CHANGE your DB SETTINGS for the test site and make an addon domain. Run your test site from there in maintenance mode to avoid possible copied content penalty from google and run throught all of the steps until you're ready and happy with your new version. Then delete this dev site and make new one, do just the necesery steps for upgrade, testing and youre ready to go official. Swap both sites (download your current 1.3 site and it's DB) and copy the second test site and it's DB to the working envoirment. This guide will give you least headaches and downtime. If you go to update your live site you'll experience much more downtime than updating your test one and them moving it (you can do that by number of ways)...
