  1. 1. Should we keep or remove id number from SEF links?

    • Just keep as is
      0
    • Remove
    • Make enable/disable option in settings

My question is directed to Presta developers.

Are there some plans to remove id (which is obligatory in address linking) from SEF links?

If no, then WHY?

From search engine and technical side, I undertand, that it is not a problem. But from user / customer side it looks a bit uncomfortable, when buying "12345-brand-computer" or "345-artist-musicfile".

Of coarse this issue is solved with manual code changes or third party addons, but in any way - why just not to remove or, at least, be able to deactivate them in SEO settings?

Frankly speaking, at the moment I'm Virtuemart user. And it does not have id's in product addresses. But now I plan and working on switching my eshops to Presta, and this caused some uncomfortable feelings.

As a matter of test,I've tried beta of Presta 1.6, a great job !!!, a lot of "sweet" upgrades and changes, but there is still "id" issue.

In any way, I'd like to hear some comments from developers, if any, or Presta users.

Thank you!

in my opinion it's not good idea to remove id numbers from link

why?  if you change name from beds for example to super-beds, your old link http://www.domain.co.uk/beds will loose whole seo because new url will look like http://www.domain.co.uk/super-beds

when someone will open old page /beds - it will not work as it work with id number in url, user will not be redirected - instead of this your customer will see 404 or internal prestashop "page not found".

definitely bad, for customers, and for seo.

But in admin, or in database, id will remain. Can you explain the difference?

And also, how Presta SEF redirect works in general?
