shipping

Recommended Posts

hello,

Was hoping for some suggestions on shipping.

I sell model trains online.

Locally in japan and internationally.

I don`t have any issues with configuring shipping for local use.

however international i am at a loss to get accurate shipping.

My products sold are very random in size weight and value. however because my profit is very low per item i need to have accurate shipping fees.

As an example

1 item could be in shape 23 x18 x 3.5cm  which requires a medium sized box, but then for example they might purchase another item like a structure that could be 18x 14 x 12 this then requires a larger box adding more weight to the shipping cost.

The prestashop shipping system only allows additional cost per item, but this cannot help in my case.

What i wanted to apply was a box size system. example the smallest of items in a foam packet then when adding a larger item say a full model set it will add the M size box weight to the final shipping calculation to get a more accurate result.

does anyone have a suggestion or am i going to need to make some sort of custom changes to the shipping system.

hello

I realize i can add dimensions and the weight of the product. however this does not add a box weight.

say for example my M box is 25 x 18 x 7 in size  and i can fit 2 of these in one box. the box weight 220g and the model is 768g

I want it to calculate 768 + 768 + 220g

Another example is this

customer adds this and it calculates small box of 110g + item weight. Then they add 1 of the above sets so it removes the small box and adds the m box weight. m box + item 1 + item 2 =

I thought about adding extra weight to the product but then if the customer checks out 2 it over charges shipping.

Since presta cannot modify shipping cost this becomes problematic.

Their are so many prestashop sites around the world, because it is so popular, and rightly so.

Shipping and the limited variables have always been limited but, of course, it is impossible to have a module that will do what everybody wants.

The best result, I have personaly found, is to try and find a "halfway house" where every product has a shipping cost, set to a minimum and then add your delivery charges as per normal.

I think the only way for you, and any other PS website owners, is to get a module made by a developer to do exactly what you require.

Thanks for your reply Paul

It does seem that way. the hardest part is  that i offer express and basic delivery so it cannot be calculated at a single cost per item and a shipping and handling on top.

as a quick work around atm i have a free gift added which just adds weight but obviously that seems misleading Box      gift

maybe a quick way would be some form of modification to the cart to add weight manually depending on size of largest item.

not sure on easiest way but i think a completely custom weight system would be both hard and very costly i would think.
