Creating configurable products

What's the easiest way to create a configurable (complex) product? I've googled and found only four year old tutorials. I'm really hoping there is a plugin that will make some of this easier. Here is an example of my product:

 

Main Product - $50

 

(select one option)

[ standard wing +$0 ]

[ red wing +$2 ]

[ blue wing +$3 ]

[ green wing +4 ]

 

(select one option)

[ standard tail +$0 ]

[ curved tail +$5 ]

[ straight tail +$6 ]

[ mixed tail +$7 ]

 

(select one option)

[ no pinstripe +$0]

[ pinstripe white +$2 ]

[ pinstripe blue +$3 ]

[ pinstripe red +$4 ]

 

and I've got about 8 more options for the same product. I guess it is similar most to a computer where you add on all the little things when making your purchase.

 

So far I see: Catalog > Attributes and Values

 

Then I go to: Product > Select Product > Attributes > Product Combo Generator ...

 

Seems like a ton of work for a single product and it's going to generate a ton of combinations. Is there a really good plugin available? Looking but haven't found yet.
