Setting up a domain redirect to a subdirectory

Recommended Posts

I am running PS 1.4 for my site.

I've developed a new, upgraded 1.5 site in a subdirectory on my shop's hosting and imported the customers & products.

Now I would like my domain (http://thestitchersmuse.com) to point to the new site in the subdirectory (http://thestitchersmuse.com/shop).  I'd prefer the address bar in a customer's browser to still show thestitchersmuse.com, but I could live with the addition of the /shop if I had to.

I've tried to do this in my cpanel domain redirect, but it just generates error messages and messes up the site.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?  It may have to do with the .htaccess file, but I don't know much about those.

Thank you!

Found the answer here: https://my.justhost.com/cgi/help/347.  I booted up the back office in my old (root) website, accessed the .htaccess generator, pasted the instructions into the generator, changed the appropriate text, generated the .htaccess, and it worked.  It does still show the subdirectory in the address line, but at least my live site is the new one now.
