Remove express checkout button from cart page

I have country restrictions setup to only allow paypal payments from any country but the US and Canada. We do not use paypal to process credit cards, and only use it to accept paypal to paypal transfers for international customers. We're using single page checkout. When I uncheck the US and Canada in the country restrictions section, the paypal payment section disappears from step 3 of the payment window as expected, but the checkout with paypal button still shows in the cart above step one. When logged in with the test account, the paypal button still works for payments, even though the test account is registered in the US. 

 

Any idea what I can do to make sure the paypal payment options are only visible to people outside the US and Canada?

go to modules > positions and search for displaycart modules list

remove paypal module from this list

then button will disappear
