Allow ordering from back office only

Recommended Posts

I want to find out if it is possible to allow ordering from back office only?

I have tried to put the shop in catalog mode but then it disables ordering from back office as well. Catalog mode also disables registration which I don't want to do.

I have found a dodgy way to this. If I go to back office and then inside Customers separator_breadcrumb.png Groups, three default groups can be seen. Removing "Show prices" will remove the cart functionality for that particular group of customers. So, if I remove this for Visitors it removes Add to cart functionality for all customers.

The reason I say dodgy is because removing this options also removes "Registration, Login" module for "Visitors". This means even if registered customers visited the site and they are not logged in then will not be able to see the login link at the top. The way around this is to manually place the link to login/registration page.

How will this work?  The customer visits your site, sees something they want to buy, you want them to register - then what do they do?Ring a call centre?  Email the details of the order to you?

Presumably you'll have to employ extra staff to enter the orders via back office, while the customer is perfectly capable of (and may prefer) completing the order themselves (and the data they enter is more likely to be accurate).

Not really e-commerce, by the sound of it.

Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for the response. I understand and totally agree what you say but unfortunately this is a requirement imposed by my client.

They will indeed operate a call center and they dont want the customer to register or order themselves. They do want to allow this in future but for some reason they don't want it initially. So, I would appreciate if you or anyone reading these forms jump in point me how to get this done. Thanks
