Product image upload size? Help

Recommended Posts

I understand that Prestashop 1.5 resizes and optimises product pics on upload but I have always resized images BEFORE upload because I thought that Prestashop keeps a copy of the original full size image on the server.

I cant find any info on this anywhere.

Can someone clarify and where are the original large images stored if I want to resize them to keep server size small.

Many thanks

I have found the images in

public_html/img/tmp

Is it safe to delete these to get some space back on the server.

Many image files which are 8mb each approx.

no, it's not safe

prestashop uses this directory to display images in back office and also in orders history in front office, don't remove it.

too late I already removed them.

Why were they so huge?

around 5 or 6mb each one

Can someone PLEASE answer my original question?

Is this a difficult question or is my question not clear.

I upload a 3mb product image.

It get reduced and optimised by PShop.

What happened to the original full size image?
Where is it stored on server so I can remove to bring server size down?

Thanks

Also why is there no tutorial anywhere on procedure when uploading images for products.

For example maybe something like..

"Your images should be resized and optimized before uploading for Prestashop.

We suggest 600pix.

Resize and optimise the images and then upload as usual via Prestashop."

This is a major step that is not shown to ANY newbies.

So most people would upload a 10mb full size image and waste so much space on their server.

orginal full size file is also stored there, it's because - if you will want to change sizes of thumbs, you must have original picture to do it. so prestashop saves this file too.

it's not necessary to resize images. In fact... you probably know that you haven't got enough space on your host HDD...

seems there are different views by the admins here as in this post the admin says its ok to delete the files except the index one.

So who is right?????

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/61807-solved-temporary-image-import-files-in-imgtmp/

it's old topic. if you'd asked me about it 4 years ago I would say the same as other mod there. Topic is related to old 1.2 version

now prestashop is in 1.5 version and works a bit different, much better in my opinion. and tmp directory is necessary for several parts of shop, both bo and fo.
