Custom home/index page

Hi I was wondering if I can customise my shop's homepage (index page) to one column while all other pages are 3 columns by default. Has onyone done this before?

Or is there any script to avoid the site's visitor goes directly to index page but redirected to the "custom" page instead?

You wouldnt want this as spiders would also be redirected to the landing page.

You can stop modules from appearing in certain pages on your site by editting them in the positions window, there is a section there called exceptions. If you enter index.php then that module wont display on your homepage, but will appear everywhere else.

but the left and right columns will displayed as white spaces, isn't it?
The left and right columns are 190px each

Well you could change the width of your homepageeditorial and homefeatured module to cover the whole of the page, and then you would have to change the layout of your homefeatured products section.
