Creating a local copy from host?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have downloaded a copy of my existing Prestashop 1.4.11.0 store from my host site to my local machine in effort to tinker with the design and layout of my shop. I have never had a local copy because it was originally developed by others. I have downloaded and installed xampp and I installed the local copy of the shop in /xampp/htdocs. The database seems to be working OK after adding it and the DB user/admin permissions etc... I can get to the local homepage of the shop OK but most of the links from the home page return the following:

"Object not found! The requested URL was not found on this server. The link on the referring page seems to be wrong or outdated. Please inform the author of that page about the error. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster. Error 404" 127.0.0.1
Apache/2.4.7 (Win32) OpenSSL/0.9.8y PHP/5.4.22

Hovering over the links in a browser show that the links "point" to the same links as the live site i.e. the link URL is the same as the live site relative to local path that is i.e. localhost/mysite/linkname. I have tried with Friendly URL set to Yes and with it set to No. Also tried deleting .htaccess after backup. It is as if some of the local sub directories are unseen because many small images appear to be unloaded as well. I am unfamiliar with Prestashop architecture and customization so I am unsure what my next steps should be?

The back office works OK and so do the links to external sites such as FB, YouTube, etc...Your thoughts or guidance on next steps would be highly appreciated.

Thank you,

Wess

OK so I just realized that I created a nightmare for myself. I was not paying attention but while under the impression that I was working locally I was at times actually working on the live site. So, my links are broken on the live site as well. Its going to be a long Xmass eve :)
