generalexperts
I currently have version 1.5.4.1. I am wondering if I need to upgrade to the newest version. I have a lot of customization on my site. Will upgrading delete everything? What is the purpose for the upgrade? Anything new? I realize I can back everything up and try the upgrade. But I'm guessing it will mess some things up. Has anyone solved how to do a proper upgrade without changing any customization? Thank you!
Kogkalidis
As far as I know you have to move the custom file to override folder.. I have never tried it (just rumours on this forum).. Newer versions are just too young to be able to trust them in commercial level and 1.6 I believe that is more upgrade in a free responsive theme and a bit design than in functionality.. My advice: stay where you are and - in case you like to try something new - check them out in localhost with xampp Regards from Greece
BWT
no you don't have to if you don't want to, however you should check what the updates are in the change log. If there are important updates in the version you might want to. Additionally you should back up everything first, download your store, back up your database. In the past I have made a dummy site to test manual upgrades on as well as other test mode things, you might want to do something like that so you can feel more comfortable working with the files. Good Luck p.s. take a look at my video upgrade guide in the signature Edited January 8, 2014 by T-Bone (see edit history)
