Authorize.net module does not work because expiration year needs to be two numbers not four.

I have spent an enormous amount of time trying to get a core module to work, the authorize.net module.  The error message it keeps generating is that the "Credit card expiration date is invalid."  Contacted authroize.net and they said the year has to be two digits, not four as the module generates.  So if the exp. date is 2014, it needs to send 14, not 2014.  How the heck can I fix this.  Without this module working, the store is useless.
