Help with price rules

How do I apply a discount off all products in my store, but not the attributes?

• In other words a shirt is $20 

To add the name on the back is $5 (this is an attribute)

When they select this option it adds $5 to the price.

When I set the price rule to 50% off it also takes 50% off the attributes.  So, when they select add name, I only adds $2.50

How do I make it discount the base price ONLY.

 

If I add a rule to only discount certain attributes, it puts the price back to $20 and then adds the $5.

 

Is there a way to discount the base price only?

As far as I know, there is no way to exclude certain attributes from discounts (but if anyone knows, feel free to correct me )
