[solved] mod_rewrite problem & Bluehost

Recommended Posts

Webhosting: Bluehost

PHP version: 5.2.17

MySQL version: 5.5.34-log

After using the Mojo Marketplace feature (used to be called Simple Scripts) 4x in an attempt to install Prestashop, I got tired of the failure to install. It timed out every time. So I manually installed Prestashop and everything seemed to go fine.

However, looking at the dashboard, I see two 'problems' listed in red and a 'warning' listed in yellow.

Problems:

[ X ] URL rewriting

[ X ] Browser cache & compression

Warning:

Combine, Compress & Cache

**

For the first problem of URL rewriting, I clicked on it and it takes me to the Preferences > SEO & URLs where it states: "URL rewriting (mod_rewrite) is not active on your server, or it is not possible to check your server configuration..."

How do I fix this?

For the second problem of Browser cache & compression, I clicked on it and it takes me to Advanced Parameters > Performance where it states: "This feature cannot be disabled because it is currently in use."

How do I fix this?

Thanks.

1. Enable Friendlily Url's.  Then visit your shop.  If you do not see 'pretty' url's then in fact you hosting may not have mod_rewrite active.  (this is very rare) (sometimes it's a good idea to clear your browser cache/cookies after doing this)

2. Browser cache & compression (compression on most hosting accounts, cache not avail on all shared hosting)
