pienzu
Hi everyone, I've searched this on various forum but cant find anything. The question is: Is it posible to configure Prestashop so it can be seen from various countries but customers can only actually buy in one of those countries? . For example: store can be seen in european countries but customers can only buy if in Germany. Thanx for any feedback.
El Patron
back office-->preferences-->geo locatioin here you can define various behaviors of which countries can view and buy from your shop. if you decide this will work for you take a look at the module which will help you test http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/279119-module-geo-targeting-localization-country-or-ip-simulator-pro/
pienzu
Thanx El Patron, Does the config. of Geolocation affect the config. of Localization, Languages, Zones & Countries? or are they independent from Geolocation? In Geolocation i understand I should click "Geolocation by IP" then it seems like you select the countries which have access but for "Restricted countries" options are: - Cannot see catalog - See catalog but cant buy then for "Geolocation behaviour for other countries" options are: - Cannot see catalog - See catalog but cant buy I dont understand the combination. If I give "Access" to a country what does this mean - For example they can see and buy, so how do I select restricted countries and then configure "See catalog but cant buy". I think I'm being a bit slow, but there seem to be few options !

I think I'm being a bit slow, but there seem to be few options ! simply select the countries in the 'Select countries that can access your store:' than can buy from your store. it is a bit confusing: 1. Geolocation behavior for restricted countries: these are for countries who were found in IP conversion but not selected in country selection list. 2. Geolocation behavior for other countries: (I am pretty sure) this is what to do for visitors that are not found in the IP conversion, i.e. whose IP address can not be converted to a country. It is pretty easy to implement and you can possibly find by country proxy servers to test. Note: 'always' clear your browser cookie between country test because ps will remember the last country set in the cookie.
pienzu
Is it Ok to assume that most european countries will already be in the IP conversion (I imagine this is the Whitelisted IP adresses)? Also I see at the top of the Geolocation config. page the following: "In order to use Geolocation, please download this file and extract it (using Winrar or Gzip) into the /tools/geoip/ directory." Do you know what this is for?

Do you know what this is for? Yes, you are required to 1) download the GeoLiteCity.dat file, 2) unzip it 3) and using FTP upload the unzipped IP data to /tools/geoip/directory. This opens the door to native PrestaShop by country localization. For example back office-->localization-->countries-->edit a country-->set that countries default currency. So then visitors from that country see that currency. Then you can do 'specific prices' by country.
pienzu
Unfortunately I'm still not seeing this Right now in Localization/ Countries I have just Germany ticked and in Preferences/Geolocation - Geolocation by IP address is not ticked. What does that configuration mean? Which countries can see and which can buy?
El Patron
it can be tricky to 'see' your shop 'by' country. that is why I wrote: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/279119-module-geo-targeting-localization-country-or-ip-simulator-pro/
pienzu
Yeah thanx, I saw the product but dont have the money. So if Preferences/Geolocation - Geolocation by IP address is not ticked, then there is no control over countries, like everyone can see and buy?. El Patron
when not 'ticked' then one of the behaviors (not see etc) will be used for that country. don't worry about buying the module, this is a hobby for me...my other money is in my mattress..it was given as an example of my work...in this area
pienzu
So how does this relate to the countries selected in Localization/Countries ?
El Patron
those selected are 'allowed' to purchase items on your shop
pienzu
So lets see if I understand: Localization/Countries is the place to select countries that can purchase on the shop. and Geolocation simply lets you control whether people from other countries (those not selected in Localization/Countries) can see or not see the catalog of products. is that correct? Another way is to simply allow anyone but only allow certain countries to register.
pienzu
Ok thanx El Patron, I think in my case it doesnt make much sense to use Geolocation as I only want to sell in one country.
El Patron
Ok thanx El Patron, I think in my case it doesnt make much sense to use Geolocation as I only want to sell in one country. I would not restrict anything and simply only have shipping to the country you do business in. This would allow people to register from any country and ship only to the country(s) you have carriers for. I buy online and ship to other addresses probably as much as I have items shipped to me.
