After Upgrade Image paths pointing to root directory.

After nearly two months of trying to do an upgrade I have come extremely close to getting an upgrade to work. Everything works good as far as I can tell except that the product images are not being displayed. The image properties show that directory its trying to find the images is the root directory.

For example on version 1.1.0.5 the images would show the correct path as as http://www.mywebsite.com/img/p/566-754-home.jpg

Now with the upgrade to the latest version the path to the images goes to the root directory http://www.mywebsite.com/566-754-home.jpg and as expected no images would show because there are no images in the root directory.

How do I get the latest version (v 1.2.4.0) to get the images from the correct directory (i.e. /img/p/image.jpg) ???
