Customer registers and orders - where is my email to tell me?

Hello,

 

Can someone please tell me if PS 1.4.9 can send an email to another email account or phone stating that:

 

1. customer has registered &

2. they have ordered.

You have to enable the Mail Alerts module Not sure it tells you about new customers on 1.4 though
