Different sized images - how come

Hello,

 

I need some help to get this matter resolved.

 

I have alot of images that are in different sizes. I have used PS1.3. The images were transfered over and I have tried to add a number of photos after updating to PS1.4. The images are very bad - all in different sizes (massive )    http://rajastones.co.uk/category.php?id_category=4  

 

They used to be displayed with a white / black boxes on the left & right. Now they have gone (and that is what I wanted when I was using PS1.3 but it was not possible. Now I get no black boxes (hooray) but the images are all distorted and out of 'aspect ratio'

 

I cannot understand that having regenerated the thumbnails it has caused this to my site - I need some help with this if possible.
