Paypal USA Canada express checkout does not work with customer groups

I have a website setup with a 2 tier pricing structure:

 

- customer prices

- wholesale prices for customers I added to a wholesale customer group

 

A wholesale customer must first register on the website and then the shop admin set them as the Wholesale group so that they receive wholesale prices.

 

All works fine until the express checkout. Once they check out the prices revert back to the standard customer prices, and when redirected back to the website (which also causes a fatal error), and when finally back on the website, a new user profile has been created which has nothing to do with the original customer, and shows the standard and not the whole sale prices.
