Adding stock through a 'supply order' does not work

When I fill in a supply order and follow all the steps to the final one: '5 - ORDER RECEIVED COMPLETELY' the stock quantity of that item is NOT increased.

Only after I go to catalog->products->product item->quantities and then switch

'I want to use the advanced stock management system for this product. '

to

'I want to specify available quantities manually. ',

let the page save it self and then switch back to

'Available quantities for current product and its combinations are based on warehouse stock. ' the correct quantities are displayed.

 

This is not how it is supposed work I hope. With a lot of items this is not a workable solution.
