Fresh install 1.5.6 error "Too many redirects" on front office

Recommended Posts

Ok, here's the situation...

I originally installed 1.5.4 back in August 2013, and went through this giant headache of it working perfectly locally and failing in the wild. I got the redirect loop thing. After quite a few frustrating hours I tracked down the glitches one by one. I remember that one of the problems was that my host had the memory_limit in the php.ini file set at something ridiculously low. And, if I remember correctly, that turned out to be the biggest problem.

So, I recently decided to upgrade to 1.5.6, one click didn't work so I did it manually. Followed the procedure to the letter, even some of the "needless" ones, just in case. Things seemed to go smoothly enough, but i ended up with some ugly malfunctions. SSL doesn't work with the AJAX cart, Turn the AJAX off and the cart doesn't work at all. force SSL doesn't appear to work, products in the back office only returns a sql error. And these are just the ones that I have tracked down.

So, I decided to to a fresh install. Everything went smoothly. Cloned the database from the live site. back office looks and functions perfectly. But the front office, well I'm getting a redirect loop. This install is in a sub-folder on my live server. The existing "upgraded" version of the site is running (more or less) from the root folder. So the problem is obviously not in the php.ini file. I am about 95% sure that I never changed anything or had any problems with the .htaccess file before, but could that be the problem this time?

I'm kind of stumped, because there is no useable info in the error, or anything in the browser console. Or is there an error log that I am overlooking somewhere?

I've been dredging the forums for a couple days now to no avail and any advice or clues at this point would be greatly appreciated...

Hi peteg1013, I think the problem occured when you cloned the database to link to your new fresh install. That can cause problems as the two may not "link" correctly.

If you do a fresh install without linking the cloned database, does it work fine? If so, then the linked database is the problem.

Have you considered using a CSV file to import you data to a fresh install. That is safer option than to link a database to a fresh install.

Thanks for your response Benjamin.  I'll try that. But because of the weird SQL error I am getting on products, I cannot export all of our products as a CSV from prestashop, I only get fifty, and they seem pretty random, meaning not in any particular order. As a matter of fact the entire search functionality of the back office only returns a SQL error. hmmm,  I'll try a CVS export of the database from phpMyAdmin. Maybe I can fish out the data from there....

To be honest, to save time and money I would go straight to Cart2Cart. They are a migration partner of ours and they have great rates with good service. You'll find many great reviews about them on the forum. I wouldn't say it if I didn't think it was worth it. http://www.shopping-cart-migration.com/supported-carts/147-prestashop
