claybourg
Some US States require merchants to collect sales tax based on the origin of the business and others based on the goods destination. My business is registered in Illinois and has physical presence in Massachusetts. In IL merchants must collect sales tax from IL customers even if the delivery address is out of IL If an IL customer buys from me and ship to an IL address I have to collect tax If an IL customer buys from me and ships to California, I also have to collect tax in MA merchants are only required to collect sales tax if the delivery address is in MA. If an MA customer buys from me and ships to an MA address I have to collect tax If an MA customer buys from me and ships to California, I do NOT have to collect tax Both rules apply to my business, however Prestashop only leaves me the choice to use one or the other but not both. Under Localization --> Taxes / Tax options there is a drop down menu for either Based on: delivery address or Invoice address. If I chose "invoice address", MA customers who buy from me and ship to California will be unduly charged tax. If I chose "delivery address", IL customers who buy from me and ship to California will NOT be charged sales tax, but I will owe this tax to the State of IL. Prestashop developers have omitted or are not aware of this tax rule in the US it seems or is there a work around that I am missing? The following States use "invoice address" / business origin base. Arizona California Illinois Mississippi Missouri New Mexico Pennsylvania Texas Utah Virginia The other States use "Delivery address.
