Unavailable Combinations

I have a question about combinations. I know that to get fine grained control i can use the presto-changeo module, but I just need a simple warning. Like if the user selects three attributes and their is no combination the add to cart gets hidden, but the price stays up at the last available combination. Can the price be made to say unavailable when a combination is not found for the selection. Or maybe a better way to say it is their any way to make the price text change to "not available" when a combination is selected that doesn't exist.
