TomPuja
Hello Community, I decided to post this topic as I am planning to move my shop to a new domain and wish to know about possible obstacles in advance. Therefore, I call everyone to share one's ideas, experience, insights and so on. My situation: We are running a very old e-shop on original domain-1 hosted at server-1. At this moment I am almost finished with developing a new webshop on temporary domain-2 and hosted at server-2. My ultimate goal is to have the new webshop running on the original domain-1 and no change at hosting, i.e. keeping the new shop at the same server-2. So what do I do? 1. change domain address in PrestaShop back-office? 2. de-attach domain-1 from server-1 at registrar and reattach to server-2? 3. deactivate temporary domain-2? What else? Thank you very much in advance! Any opinion or advise is highly appreciated!
Lu thranga
"Very old e-shop" ? What version ? 1. Yes change the domain in your backoffice. 2. Yes edit the nameservers (and allow upto 24-48 hours for dns propagation) 3. Or you can redirect that domain to old domain. When i changed my domain ,i had to login to phpmyadmin and edit ps_configuration > PS_SHOP_DOMAIN & PS_SHOP_DOMAIN_SSL i don't remember why i had to do that . Regenerate .htaccess file and delete cache.
vekia
If you want to use old domain and old server, just upload your new store to the new server and use your old domain in ps_shop_url table (preferences > seo & urls)

How do i changed or set my new password so that i can log into my eshop back office? I would try to reset the password by using the 'Forgot password' option. Q2: After transfered, my new eshop has links to my previous domain. how do i changed the link so that it reflect my new domain? What links are you talking about? If these are links you hard coded into your store you will need to update these links by hand to represent your new domain name. Hope that helps! rxsy2002
Hi Marty, I can't use the password reset because it is tied to my email address. I can log in using the password on my old domain site but not on my new domain. Is there somewhere i can set my password? Swee Hin
Carolina Custom Designs
Is there somewhere i can set my password? Swee Hin Yes but it sounds like you will need to reset it on the DB. Are you comfortable working directly on the DB? If not, I would suggest getting someone that is familiar with it to do this for you. You can really make a mess of your store if you do not know what you are doing. If you are comfortable/familiar with working in phpMyAdmin follow these steps to reset your password. Locate the setting named _COOKIE_KEY and copy the string from /config/settings.inc.php Once you have the key open your DB and find the ps_employee table (ps_ being DB prefix). Find your admin user account and edit your employee account. Next, find the passwd row. You will need to edit two columns. First in the Function column select the MD5 option. Next in the Value column paste your _COOKIE_KEY value and add your new password directly to the end of the key with no spaces. Finally, hit GO to save your new password. You should be able to login to your BO using your admin user account now. Good luck and be very careful! Marty Shue
rxsy2002
thanks. I think i am able to log into my admin user account. However every time i click on the menu, ex products, it will bring me back to the login page and i have to key in my password. What do i need to change in my setting so that it will not ask me for password? Swee Hin
