how to fix img/p file

Ive been checking and doing clean up for performance on my site and have found that under img/p folder there is over a gig of image files. It is causing a script error when I try to open the file under cpanel file manager since its so large. I believe this was caused by installing apc and dso the file permissions changed and I think it started to write these but not sure. Here is a sample and this continues through thousands of images.

/public_html/user.com/img/p/-1000-large_default.jpg

/public_html/user.com/img/p/-1000-medium_default.jpg

/public_html/user.com/img/p/-1000-small_default.jpg

/public_html/user.com/img/p/-1000-thickbox_default.jpg

/public_html/user.com/img/p/-1000.jpg

/public_html/user.com/img/p/-1002-home_default.jpg

 

Since I fixed the permission issues its not generating these images anymore. Can I delete these?
