trouble with header covering top menu and contents [SOLVED]

I've recently had to start from scratch with my shop and upgraded to 1.5.6.0 at the same time. In this new shop. I can't get my logo to fit right. it keeps covering the top menu and the upper contents of the page. I have tried every possible solution I've been able to google my way to, but nothing seems to work properly. I have added a screenshot to show my problem. my page is currently down for maintainence to avoid confusing customers, while I'm building it, but I will put it online if needed

it's hard to help without an access to your website, please turn off maintenance mode for a while

im convinced that we can fix it with simple css command

remove position:absolute; from:

top: 30px;

}

I removed the line, saved the file and cleared my cache but it doesn't seem to have worked :-(

 

edit: I edited the top horizontal menu and added my categories and everything popped right  back into place.  Thanks for all the great help and have a wonderful weekend :-)
