bargain247
Hello all, We have just finished building our company website using using Prestashop 1.5.4.1. When we tried to upload around 5000 products, the time taken is extremely slow (could take a day or two) before I could index them. The problem got worsen when I tried to index while the products were still uploading. Then we decided to cut down each upload to just 150 products or so, however we did just upload 59 products few days ago and it was taken around 2 hours (include index). My question is: is there a faster way to improve products? Following are the steps taken to upload CSV: - Catalog --> Products --> Import - Upload --> select the file - Change entity to "Products" - Tick force all ID's during import - then import .CSV data at next page. Do you have the same problem? Is there any solutions for a faster speed? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cheers. Herry
Dh42
It sounds like you are on shared hosting with a shady provider that does not give your hosting account much processing power. You might consider switching. One other thing I have noticed that slows csv importing down is if you are using unreasonable large images also. It takes processing power to shrink them down. bargain247
Thanks Dh42 for your input. We will investigate your suggestion. Our image size range from 20kb - 60kb or average of 45kb, all at 640 x 480 pixels. Thank you. Cheers, Herry
Dh42
Yeah, that is a totally acceptable image range, I would investigate the host issues.
bargain247
Thanks Dh42. We used to update almost 5000 items in excel format to other open cart platform for about 10 -15 mins or so and don't worry about indexing. We know Prestashop is a bit different. How long should I expect to upload/update 100 items in CSV file in Prestashop in normal circumstances? Cheers, Herry
Dh42
It should only take a few minutes. Prestashop is pretty advanced, so it makes 6-8 images in different sizes for every product and things like that. So that does take some time.
bargain247
Actually I noticed to upload new items are fast, but to update the existing items are very slow. In order for items not to create duplicate images, in CSV deleting image field we actually specify as "yes" instead. Not sure if that's the main reason that slow the whole thing down. I just tested to upload 40 new items and it's finished in less than 5 minutes, however with the same list I tried to update it, it's still going. It's going to take at least few hours, then I need to index. What do you suggest we do to faster the speed in updating existing items? Thank you.
