Cpanel Full Backup: is it reliable?

Recommended Posts

I've a website with PS 1.5.5. I manage the backup from Cpanel.

The problem is that when I try to download a Full Backup, there is a strange behaviour.

Infact, not all PS files are included in public_html folder and, also, there are a lot of folders (modules, admin, smarty, etc.) outside the public_html folder!!!

Furthermore, there are a lot of folders like 1, 2, 3....n, etc....

It is possible that this is due to Smarty or a caching system?

I fear that the Cpanel Full Backup is not reliable and there are a lot of missing files!

What about your experience? Do you do a Cpanel Full Backup? Have you tested it?

Thank you for your answers

Full cPanels are reliable from what I experienced.

Only catch when you have big backup archives you wont be able to download them through your browser but you would need to use FTP. I think limit is 4 GBs per file.

Well in that case you can make full cPanel in less then a minute and download it to your local hard drive for keeping.

I had some similar dilemmas and I still have them when it comes to easy Prestashop backup module.

I guess there are some paid modules out there that can solve your problem but real free solution doesn't exist, at least not yet.

If you have hosting with cPanel there is no reason why full cPanel backup shouldn't work. I suggest you to write them a ticket and explain the situation.

Of course you can always manually download the files and make a DB dump but I really don't like this solution as it is not elegant I never know what folders/files are prestashop essential and what aren't. Like you said there are lot folder related to some cashing or other junk which you don't need in your backup.

Something like Akeeba backup for Joomla would be great to have on Prestashop as well.
