Urbanfarmer
Hello......I was referred over here from the "Introductory" forum. We need to escape Yahoo, and are looking for another platform. PS looks real interesting. I have some questions before I can make the decision. (it's a big decision!) is the default package integrated with USPS shipping, including Regional Priority, or do I need an add-on? do I have to use WAMP to build the site before going live? is the default "responsive"? I need a site that displays well on both PC and mobile. Will it be essential to hire a pro initially for the default? I have limited html skills. I can use Firebug somewhat to make CSS edits. That's all I can do. Should I start with an older version that has the bugs worked out? Thanks in advance........
PascalVG
Hi Urban, saw your message on the introduce yourself list: - There is a default USPS module that comes with Prestashop. Some more details and how to configure it can be found here: http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/prestashop-15/pshop15-modules/configure-usps-module - You can just build your site on your domain and before opening, put your shop in maintenance mode. No customer can enter the site then as yet. Some message is shown that the site is being maintained. (You can change the text as appropriate) - When going live, it's best to work on a copy to make everything work, and then copy the new version in one time (This can be can be a subdomain on your host, like sneakytestsite.mydomain.com) - Wamp is easy, if you don't have connection available 24/7... -The default is not responsive a yet (Didn't here about coming version 1.5.6.0 yet if it is...). There is a mobile site-version that is used by default when connecting form a tablet/smartphone, but clearly different form a responsive theme. There are responsive themes for sale elsewhere, however, with nice layouts. - If you need to hire a pro depends entirely of what you want/need. Basics of prestashop are not very difficult to grasp, but the moment you want to edit the files instead of only using the back office, then more skills in css, php, javascrip/ajax/smarty/jquery can be useful to make it quick... A skilled person can be handy then. 1.5.5.0. seems pretty stable, as far as the messages I see on the forum and personal experience with the product. With beautiful features... Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, don;t hesitate to ask! pascal
PascalVG
Oh, I forgot to tell there's a user guide with the basics covered here: http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS15/User+Guide and a demo site (front office and back office) here: http://www.prestashop.com/en/demo Hope this helps, pascal
Urbanfarmer
Thank you.......this helps. From the screenshot I can see that the USPS module doesn't support Regional Priority rates, which are based on zipcodes and distance from the shipper. It is very economical.....cheaper than regular Priority. And USPS supplies the boxes free. We use them alot! Do you know of a "pay for" module that will integrate regular Priority and Regional Priority? About mobile. Do you mean that the default version changes to accomodate mobile, or do I need a separate site for mobile. This isn't clear to me. I'm not opposed to buying a responsive, but some of the research I've done indicates many of these don't work very well. If they work well, then they sound like the best of both worlds. Thanks again for the help......
PascalVG
No experience with usps, so not sure how much is covered/supported, but there are some modules: http://www.presto-changeo.com/en/shipping-modules/61-usps.html made by forum member Tomerg3, who has the name of creating good modules, with good support. Maybe contact him to see what he can do for you. One other I found: http://www.globonetics.com/prestashop-shipping-module/prestashop-shipping-module-usps.html Don't know them, but see if it fits your needs. pascal
tomerg3
Our module does not support regional priority. We will look into adding it in a future release.
