beatngu
is it possible to do a manual update the old way to the latest version? The crappy 1 click upgrade module is not working, when i install the latest version it does not show up in the modules. The 1 click upgrade module should be removed and just let us do it the old way. This crappy module has had problems from the start and have never worked as it should so why use it?
musicmaster
The only problem with the module is that it is rather sloppy at installing. So sometimes when you install it your shop is ready for updating while at other times - more often - you still need to go to admin section of your modules and install it there (again). Sometimes the "1-click upgrade" is there in your tools menu but doesn't work and after click on "repair" in the modules menu it suddenly has uninstalled itself and you need to install it again in the admin section. But in the end this always works. I wish I could say that of the rest of the update procedure.
bellini13
I upgrade many stores to v1.5 and I never use the auto upgrade module. There are just too many real world scenarios to try to account for in an automated process, and the module does not account for them all. I use a flavor of the manual upgrade process that is described in the developers guide here on Prestashop. They say the process is deprecated and you should use the auto upgrade module instead. This is a terrible decision on Prestashops part, considering all of the complaints received about the auto upgrade process. And always, always, always take a copy of your site and test the upgrade process on the copy. Make sure you understand what issues you are going to encounter and how to fix them, before you even think about upgrading the live store.
beatngu
So there are no changes in the database from my version to the current version?Would be great if no db changes are made then then good old way should work.
bellini13
what makes you say that there are no changes to the database?
beatngu
I'm not saying it i am asking because if there are changes made in the db in the 2 version between my version then the old way with cloning the db and do a fresh install with the new db and the images does not work. The presta team should make a option to do it all manual because the 1 click module is the worst thing with whole prestashop and have caused me so much loss of money, time and hairs on my head.I am so sick and tired of all the problems every update brings with them. bellini13
if you extract the prestashop zip file, you will see a file named prestashop\install\upgrade\sql\1.5.5.0.sql This file contains the database changes in the new version. The manual upgrade process is documented in the developers guide, and is the only way I do upgrades currently.
