lancem
I would like to disable the availability text and customer email notification box when the default combination is selected. I'm concerned that when a product page loads and the out of stock text is displayed with the default combination that customers will assume that the product is completely out of stock instead of just that particular combination. See the attached image to see what I'm talking about. I think the best solution would be to disable the availability text and email notification function for the default combination. Does anyone know of a module that will achieve this or can someone explain how I could customize my shop to achieve this?
stottycabanas
the out of stock text is displayed with the default combination ... See the attached image to see what I'm talking about. The text displayed in the image does not say 'Out of stock'? I think the best solution would be to disable the availability text and email notification function for the default combination. And if a customer wants to buy the default combination, how will they know if it's in stock or not?
El Patron
I don't know that this will help but you can tell ps not to display combinations (attributes) that are out of stock. http://screencast.com/t/F7wrXCYEnYq
lancem
Thank you for the replies. I opted to remove the availability messaging entirely so the "add to cart" button simply disappears for combinations which are not in stock and appears for ones that are in stock. I like the email notification feature and would like to be able to enable that in the future if I can figure out a better way to minimize the potential confusion with customers over stock availability. stottycabanas
lancem, I cannot see how it 'minimizes the potential confusion' for the customer to have no availability message at all. Let's say you had 10 combinations for a product. If you had none of these in stock, a simple 'Out of stock' message would confirm that immediately. Under your proposal, the customer would have to work through every combination one by one, see from the absence of a button or a message that combination had no stock (assuming they realise that's what it means), so only when they got to the end of all ten would they know there were none in stock. If there was one combination with stock, you have to hope they discovered it on the second combination and not the tenth. If I were a customer trying to deal with that, I would not be a happy bunny.
lancem
My concern is that when a customer first lands on the page they will see "Notify me when available" and "This product is no longer in stock...." and may mistakenly assume that all combinations are out of stock. I mostly sell shoes and don't want a customer to have any hesitation before selecting their size and preferred color. Ideally I think it would be best for there to be no availability messaging prior to a customer changing from the default combination. I prefer to have "Select" be the default size combination and to require customers to have to proactively make a selection. That is the standard protocol for major shoe retailers. Another option is to set the quantity for combinations with "Select" to 1 so that the customer doesn't see any message saying it's not available. Then for the rare occasion where a customer misses selecting a size we can contact them to ask the size after the order is placed. El Patron, here are 2 images showing what I'm talking about with removing availability messaging. I will do a little experimenting with a variety of people to see which is the better option. You can amend the messages to convey what you want to - better than nothing at all. I prefer to have "Select" be the default size combination and to require customers to have to proactively make a selection. Lots of people would like to see this in prestashop, but unfortunately it's not standard functionality in the way that you would want it to work.
