bfleck
I received the following comment from a buyer: "Your store site does not even use https protocol to encrypt my PII data in transmission during the registration." It is secure during the PayPal process. How can I fix this? www.shop.pennstatehoopsclub.com Thank you bfleck

bfleck
I noticed on some other stores that registering as a customer is a secure process. Why isn't it in PrestaShop or do we need to change something so that it is?
Dh42
You will need to purchase a ssl certificate from your host and a dedicated ip address and have them install it to the server. You should contact your host about that. Once it is installed, in the back office of prestashop you can turn on use ssl and it will work.
bfleck
DH42 Is it necessary to have this for the registration process for a customer/PayPal is secure regarding payment? Is there a downside? Is express checkout an option? Thank you bfleck Edited September 12, 2013 by bfleck (see edit history)
Dh42
It is not necessary for using paypal. There is no downside to using it, the downside to not using it is people might not use your site.
bfleck
Dh42 Thank you for your help. I guess my final question is: is our store or data compromised in any way by not having a SSL certificate when people register to purchase? Thanks again you have been very helpful. bfleck
Dh42
Information that customers send your shop can be compromised. For the cost, I would get one, if you go with namecheap.com you can get a certificate for $8 a year.
