El Patron
I would check/increase my php memory before I started changing permissions.

If you unzip the files on your computer and then upload them via FTP, you will lose all permission settings.

Other than the folders listed in the installation doc, I think there shouldn't be any other folders set to 777. On my server, if I set public_html to 777, it throws out a 500 error. BerghemDeSass
so....i solved....after setting the write permission, i call domain/admin/ address and i get a error 500... refresh on filezilla, i see the folder admin was automatically renamed into admin1234 calling this folder all is ok.... if we install locally this doesn't happen.. El Patron
you would only set to 777 if your domain does not run as user...I would move to another hosting...as setting anything to 777...is not a good idea.. ask you hosting provider it your php script runs as user. as for 500 error, you need to obtain the 'true' underlying error which is masked due to error settings, here's how: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/224525-how-to-turn-on-error-reporting-for-debug-information-500-error-or-blank-page/
