Penge58
Hello I worked on Prestashop with default template but desided to buy a new template and installed it. However after some time I did not like what I saw so I descided again to switch to the default template. I used the template switch but then the page came up in a great mess and a mixture between the two templates. My question is... Is there a way to re-install the default tempate again without any extra fuzz with the modules ? I have a backup before I installed the new the new template. Thanks Petter
vekia
it's because your second template rearranged modules and also prestashop settings (like images etc.) in this case you will have to IMPORT (install) default theme from scratch.

Penge58
in this case it will be necessary to export default theme from fresh ps installation. if you haven't got possibility to export it - just let me know - i will do it ASAP and attach theme file as a library Thank for your help everybody. My problem is solved now. Before I installed the new theme I took a backup of all the files and also a backup of the MySQL database. So I just copied back the old files and deleted the database and imported by backup. It just took me some minutes to realize that the MySQL backup was a compressed filed so I had to download 7-ZIP to have it unpacked before I imported. All went back to normal after that. But ..... is this how things are when you import a new theme and regret and want to go back to the old one ? Prestashop had a neat function were you can switch between templates in just one click but it did not seem to work 100 % in my case. I dont have much exerience with Prestashop yet as I am a newcomer from Oscommerce.
vekia
so, the best thing is to export all theme settings with theme import / export tool, do it everytime you want to change template - then you will be able to simply and fast back to the latest configuration

I will remember this the next time. Just a question. I belive that when you use a template you also enter some data into the MySQL database. Position of the modules, what module is active, parameters and so. When you export a template, and you then import it again....will all the database entries also follow ? vekia
that's right, while you export theme - you also export information about modules positions. but if you use some non-default modules with custom configuration (for example module has got own database) these data will not be exported. but in my opinion, the most important thing is fact - that you will have modules in correct position. Changing module positions is a nightmare...
