nickelus
Hi all, I've just purchased a secondary domain from my webhost. Instead of utilising it as a parked domain, I'm looking to make this new domain, my primary domain. My webhost stated that in order to do this (and because I have prestashop), they will need to charge me 70 dollars to do this for me (updating the settings on prestashop etc etc). I was just wondering if this is something I could do myself? I just want this new domain to lead to my website as the primary domain. I did a little google search, is this all I have to do?: https://support.terranetwork.net/web/knowledgebase/125/Changing-Domain-Name-on-your-PrestaShop-install.html Or is there more I need to consider? Please let me know, as if it saves me the cost of 70 dollars to have it done for me, I'd much rather do that!
vekia
your new domain point to your prestashop installation? if so, you can do everything in back office, just change the domain settings under preferences > seo & urls tab in back office
El Patron
also consider multishop, then you can have one or more domains on single installation. http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS15/Managing+multiple+shops many think it's for running different shops on one installation, which is true, but you can multiplex your single content with multiple url's. it's important to follow these url rules: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/62399 http://www.seroundtable.com/duplicate-content-different-domains-13574.html so, in essence, if you want to increase your SEO...then multiplexing your single content across ccTLD's...is da bomb
nickelus
Hi guys, Thanks for the quick response. Im a relative noob, so any info provided would have to be broken down into baby steps for me. @Vekia All I have to do is that? I find it hard to believe as this is the original response I received from my hosting company: ''We can certainly change your primary domain to the new chosen one (the www prefix is made available by cPanel automatically). There is a problem however with your Prestashop installation as it is configured already to work under freshfromthelabs.com. We do offer a service to clone or reconfigure an existing script to work under a new domain by replacing all of the references to the old domain in the files and database however the work to do so is handled by our migrations department and would fall under billable time.We understand that you would like us to reconfigure your Prestashop installation under http://freshfromthelabs.com to work under your new domain. After careful consideration, we offer to complete this work for you for $75. To confirm your agreement please respond with "I authorize the amount of $75" and we will be able to proceed with the requested work. So all I need to do is edit some info in the back office? Is that all? And they want to charge me 70 dollars for that?! They mention all sorts of scripts and databases, wont these need to be changed? vekia
if you want to change domain, all you have to do is to point your new domain to your prestashop root directory, and change preferneces > seo & urls tab settings (domain field) - nothing more. There is no need to change scripts etc. so what kind of help you need in this case?
nickelus
Well this might be a stupid question, but how do I point my new domain to my prestashop root directory?

nickelus
Hi Vekia, all I see is this: http://www.stilllivelucky.com/ My control panel is CPanel. What do I do now? UPDATE: My hosting company say they can change this domain to my primary domain, but everything else will have to be handled by me. What's the next step you'd recommend? vekia
so your domain is parked in your control panel? it's necessary to park it, otherwise it will not work. if your hoster said that they can do it work you, you will have to change entries in preferneces > seo & urls tab in back office, nothing more
nickelus
All my hoster said is that they can make www.stilllivelucky.com my PRIMARY domain, but from there on, any changes will have to be made by me Vekia, setting it as a PARKED domain is not what I'm doing. I'm setting it as my primary domain. Once this is done, ALL I need to do is make changes in the back office? If so, can you outline what exactly (in basic terms, as I'm very inexperienced) I need to do, what changes I need to make and where? El Patron
your new domain point to your prestashop installation? if so, you can do everything in back office, just change the domain settings under preferences > seo & urls tab in back office This is what you need to do...after you get your url pointed to where you have your shop installed. Note: on cpanel you can park the new domain name to the old one...but as you stated in your original post you did not want to do it that way... dominicg
First of all sorry for bumping an old thread but I faced the same issue as balab. The only way I was able to change main domain name is by editing MySQL database and changing everything manually. I followed this tutorial: http://www.hostinger.com/tutorials/prestashop/how-to-change-prestashop-domain and it worked for me.
