One PS for both, same domain but different folders (subdomain), can it be done?

Hi

I want to develop a site that: The same PS 1.5.5 version will be used for both sites, basically 1 admin site and 1 front site for both. But of course layout and logos and colors a bit different, and main site will  have only cms features, just text and photos, all about info pages, and there will be link to shopping site.

 

1- MAIN SITE: will be on  www.mainexample.com = CMS pages that all text and photos are updated in admin.

 

2-SHOPPING PAGES OF THAT MAIN SITE: will be on  shop.mainexample.com = Is the shopping site, managed by the same admin above.

 

Can it be done? How? One PS for both, same domain but different folders (subdomain). ıf it can be done I dont have to use 2 different PS therefore 2 different admin panels.

 

Any ideas, helps? Thanx very much in advance.
