Animating 'thumbs_right.gif' on product page. Not working for some reason?

Hi folks,

 

On some of my product pages I have more than 3 product images, which means that a small arrow appears allowing people to scroll through the thumbnails. I wanted to animate that arrow to draw attention to the fact that other images existed.

 

So when i inspect the right arrow in firebug it tells me that the arrow is called 'thumbs_right.gif' and its in the 'img' folder inside the default template folder.

 

So i created an animated gif arrow and replaced the standard grey arrow with this :-

For some reason though it has no effect in my store and it still displays the static grey arrow on my product page which you'll see on :-

So what am i missing please?
