How do I set the carrier for a particular product?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

My client has different items to sell, some of which can be sent UPS and some which require a shipping solution that includes freight. We would like to set up shipping so that the carrier is selected depending upon the product.

For example:

If Product A is ordered then shipping is via UPS
If product B is ordered then shipping goes via a freight service.

Does anyone know how to set up the system to make this happen? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is solved, at least for my case.

In my case the objects that need to be freighted are of a much higher weight. By editing the UPS carrier to disable the carrier past the specified weight ranges, I was able to accomplish this.

thanks!

I am in the same bind with freight, but I am having trouble disabling UPS Ground past a certain weight (150 lbs). When I add a weight range for UPS from 0 to 150 lbs and then go into shipping/carriers and edit UPS Ground to change Out-of-range behavior to "disable carrier", then "There is no carrier available that will deliver to this address!" for items in-between 0 and 150 lbs. Could you tell me the exact steps to give the ability to disable UPS Ground for freight weight and either use something else to calculate the freight or maybe put a shipping method in read "Freight Weight. Call for shipping costs."

This is really important for me. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jason,

I can understand your frustration with setting up shipping. Since I don't know exactly how you have it set up, I've attached an excerpt from a users document I'm writing for a client of mine. It explains how to set up shipping. I hope you get some use out of it.

Thank you for sharing that document. I am using the UPS module that, which looks up real time UPS rates, but only under 150 lbs. Have you used this module? I would like to use this module, but then disable the UPS shipping when the shipment is too heavy (freight). Do you use the UPS module created by one of the users? Do you, or anyone, know a workaround for the freight problem in the UPS module?

Thanks for any help,

Jason

I haven't used the UPS module you specified, and now I'm curious. Which one is it? I can't really answer your question because I'm not using it, but it sounds like something I'd like to know about too!

I'm going to remove the [solved] for now....so we can get some action.

UPS Module is here. There is a known flaw for it showing free shipping for freight weight (>150lbs). This post is coming up pretty high on UPS forum search terms. Does anyone reading this know a workaround for disabling the UPS module over 150lbs and going with another shipping option that maybe says "call for shipping quotes"? If there is a way to calc freight that would be even better.

Thanks,

Jason
