RescueDog
I'm sure this has been asked many many times before. My shop is set up on Arvixe - THE WORST HOST EVER - their servers are down AGAIN. I signed up for $60 for a year so, I can't complain a whole lot. HOWEVER...I'm complaining! I'm just getting back into coding - I have my own businesses that I'm using PS for (1.5.4.1) I have a ton of marketing to do before I get a steady flow of clients so I'm not looking for VPS or single server solutions. That being said, I need someone inexpensive and RELIABLE! I used HostGator for years when I had my own hosting company. I used zencart then and also had ReadyHosting for my asp/,net clients. I dropped RH because support was terrible. I don't know why I dropped HG - aside from having sold off the company. Who has EVERYTHING needed for PS and charges NOTHING for the pleasure? I have a WebHostingHub account as well...I haven't given them a go tho. I just don't want to keep addressing issue after issue like this. I want to load my code, setup my shop and collect my sales! (is that too much to ask??) ~Jo PS 1.5.4.1 knightsshop.com (as if it'll be up!)
benjamin utterback
Hi topaward, you should really check out A2Hosting and InMotion Hosting, they are both our hosting partners because they have great reliability and support for PrestaShop stores. They have very competitive pricing for what you get. You can even find discounts on our Partners page http://www.prestashop.com/en/industry-partners/hosting/a2-hosting http://www.prestashop.com/en/industry-partners/hosting/inmotion-hosting Seriously, check them out! Hope it helps give you some options. Thanks!

Dh42
You are honestly going to get what you pay for in web hosting. If you find another company that charges around $60 a year, that equates to about $5 per month. 10 minutes talking with a customer support person and they have lost money on your account for the month. Reliable hosting and good service comes with a cost.
benjamin utterback
Hobby Shops should be installed locally or on your own servers, it you are going to do something like building an online store, make sure to get something with some juice to it. The amount of sales you lose by having a slow website outweighs the cost of having a stronger server 2-1 at least.
RescueDog
I've been in business for years (we're in our 41st) and recently closed out brick and mortar showrooms. We have large client groups that we service. My intent is to provide an online store for each of those significant groups. Knowing that I don't typically have the time to just sit and build it - I wanted to go "cheap" until there's a flow and an income from the online presence to support a VPS. In the past I've invested money in more than I needed/used and it went to waste. That's primarily what I want to avoid. I've looked at hosted stores...but I miss the freedom of making things work the way I need them/want them to. For those that have a VPS - are you getting your money's worth? Are most of the PS users here developers/resellers? If you're a merchant, like I am at this point, why did you choose PS and this route instead of BigCommerce/Shopify/and others? If I'm going to spend $50/month...maybe I'm better looking into the hosted carts...
Dh42
I tell you what, I use webhostingbuzz.com for hosting most of my clients. You can get a vps level 2 account and cpanel for $38 a month. I think they have a first month for like half off coupon too. It might be more than you are wanting to spend, but they have really fast reliable servers, it is worth spending the extra money to avoid the headache. This is the uptime I have had with them in the last month, http://screencast.com/t/3kTVLogDTD down for 2 minutes, which in hosting terms is excellent. You can go with a hosted solution, but there are a lot of hidden gotcha's with them. Things like transaction fee's, paying for modules that are free with prestashop, and of course the monthly fee. Also when using those solutions when one site is attacked all sites go off line.
RescueDog
It's been since 2003 that I was "actively" employed in a corporate IT gig. I'm really rusty and not up to speed on new technologies and have forgotten most of what I knew. I fear a VPS simply because I'm not sure of what I will need to do. There's a company near me that has great reviews from what I've found so far - and the prices are low for VPS - unless they're charging ala carte once they have my cc info and I find once I'm signed up that the OS adds +$ and a control panel adds +$. They're also month/month so if I do find that I can't dedicate the time, at least I won't be out a year's worth of costs. Anyone have info on InterServer.net? As always, I greatly appreciate your guidance! ~Jo
El Patron
want to know how to have a bad ecommerce system...make anyone wait...I can't click the close button fast enough... so let's say you get a so so hosting package...sometimes it works fast (when no other sites are active)...but then in prime time..it's slow...one would might just think that my business isn't viable...when it could just be people leaving because of poor response times..or you are being punished by search engines because of poor performance ranking. if you end up paying a little more but the business isn't going as well as you hoped, you can always go back to something less expensive... surte(luck)
benjamin utterback
If you want, get in touch with your proposed hosting provider, see if you can get the starter package and them upgrade if you feel like you need to. There are many stores that run "fine" on the starter shared hosting but as El Patron said, in prime-time you may end up losing sales. That said, the hosting providers A2 Hosting and InMotion Hosting have good shared hosting. I don't want to make it seem like VPS is your only option because you can definitely do shared if you want, just monitor it carefully and see what works best for you.
