JOB OFFER - SHIPPING RULES - Different item types require different rules

Hi guys,

* JOB OFFER *

SHIPPING RULES

Different item types require different rules

We have a website that is selling posters and other items.

The items we sell are rolled and folded:

Rolled items have to be sent rolled.

Folded items have to be sent folded.

And as such have to be sent separately.

We offer the following shipping options for the UK:

Free delivery on orders over £50.00 or over.

£3.99 delivery on orders £49.99 or under.

But what if someone orders a rolled item for £30.00 and a folded item for £20.00?

The total is £50.00 and this means we will have to pay TWICE for shipping which means we will be losing money.

So, we need a shipping rule so that if a folded item is ordered and a rolled item is ordered at the same time, customers will only get free shipping if they order £50.00 or over worth of EACH?

If £50.00 worth of each is NOT ordered, then a £3.99 charge will be applied to the folded item and a £3.99 charge applied to the rolled item.

We hope this makes sense and can be done.

Thank you in advance.

Best,

Adam

It sounds like you need a custom carrier module, that would implement this logic. I don't believe existing functionality in Prestashop would be able to handle this.

Is there something defined within the product that would indicate which products are folded, and which are rolled?

Also, are there other types of products where this rule would not apply?

Hi,

Yeah, a custom module is what we need unfortunately.

I'm not sure how we can define whether a product is rolled or folded?

Obviously in the item description we can give this information, but in the back office how do we do this?

We do have other products where this rule would NOT apply such as toy cars, boxed games and DVDs etc.

All we would do here is add extra charges for each relevant item (if extra charges are required).

But our main products are rolled and folded posters and artwork.

Any help would be fantastic!

Thank you.

I haven't tested it out, but Prestashop supports carriers for specific products. So you could make a carrier called rolled and a carrier called folded. Then you can associate each carrier with the type of products.

On the product page there is a shipping tab, in that tab it looks like this. http://screencast.com/t/tNTDvJlI If you create a carrier that functions how you want for flat items and another how you want for rolled items. Then on flat items just select the flat carrier and on rolled items just use the rolled carrier. Then during checkout it should use the two different carrier methods and charge for each.

Just done what you said for a few items, but it isn't working.

When I choose a FLAT ITEM at £39.99 and a ROLLED ITEM at £49.99 there should be TWO shipping fees of £3.99, but instead the prices have been added causing the system to offer free shipping.

Any ideas how to fix this?

How do you mean?

When I make a mock order to the UK I see only the following two carriers:

Collect In Person - FREE

UK Next Day Delivery - £7.99

I should see the following:

Collect In Person - FREE

UK Next Day Delivery - £7.99

UK Standard Delivery ROLLED PRODUCTS - £3.99

UK Standard Delivery FLAT PRODUCTS - £3.99

Are the Collect In Person and UK Next Day Delivery options causing the problem?

  • 4 weeks later...

Problems are still occurring.

I am receiving no orders because of the problems I am having on PrestaShop.

I moved away from SohoLaunch because PrestaShop had much better reviews and the site needed a change.

I really don't know what to do.

I'm trying to sort it, but I'm not getting very far.

Hiya,

I have a carrier for FLAT items and a carrier for ROLLED items.

What I am not liking is the box: Estimate the cost of shipping & taxes.

It shows two shipping options - if a rolled and flat item is chosen, there should not be a choice.

See the image below.

Also, I have deleted the FREE carrier option.

Also, the £3.99 charge for UK postage for each carrier (under £50.00) is automatically added to the order.

But what if a buyer is from France or the US?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Basically, I don't want to see the ESTIMATE SHIPPING COST box.

I do not need this.

The ONLY sales I am now making is on eBay... I mean FEEBAY!

I will appreciate ANY help with this.

I am very disheartened.

Coupled with the Stripe problem I had, this is just taking the water.

Best,

Adam
