Prestashop features that doesnt work properly on any server I tried so far are:

Recommended Posts

Hi to all,

I know that I'm probably one of the most annoying and complaining persons here on the forums but thats only because I want to point errors and strange behavior of the Prestashop and major lacks in the core.

OK rebuilding index of the products and regenerating images feature dont work properly even on Prestashop official suggested hosing A2hosting.

This is what one of the their admins reported to me:

The drops in the MySQL connection are actually not due to server wide issues with MySQL, but are due to your queries hitting limits on our server which cause your queries to be killed. These limits are dynamic and based on load, slow_query time and a variety of other factors. I found a large number of instances of your processes being blocked.

Our system has fairly generous limits so the first thing I would suggest is if you can optimize anything going on in that database and see if you can stay under the limits.

I will copy a portion of the entries from our logs, though this is just a sample and there are many more entries for your account username:

[Wed Aug 21 07:27:23 2013] dekom LIMIT_ENFORCED period current value, field busy_time value 77/limit 30 restrict level 1 loadavg(26.71 15.15 10.60 32/877 428868) vmstat(29 8 0 23849192 5186308 28647968 0 0 14 130 0 0 10 3 86 1 0 ) slow_queries_timeout = 32, busy_time = 77, cpu_time = 0, bytes_received = 13530, bytes_sent = 954, binlog_bytes_written = 0, rows_fetched = 65, rows_updated = 645, table_rows_read = 0, select_commands = 10, update_commands = 7, other_commands = 0, commit_transactions = 17, rollback_transactions = 0, denied_connections = 0, lost_connections = 0, access_denied = 0, empty_queries = 3

It appears that this one instance had overloaded the mysql service as I have not seen another error since, but I am unsure if you have tried rebuilding the product index. I have made a few more changes server side that prestashop recommends to assist with this. Can you please let us know if this issue persists with the timeouts?

I hope someone will answer this

Thanks.

shared servers have limitations...it's not necessarily a ps issue, it depends on the number of category/products/images/custom templates and modules...

while they state they have a generous allowance, compared to what?

you should consider upping your hosting package...

well sir I changed 5 different hosting companies so far and used 2 VPS services.

Non of those was able to fit PS.

I believe this is not only hosting provider issue then or if it is, it should be stated how much power one PS website needs to run all its features from basic one to most resource intensive ones without single issue.

btw, all servers has limitations even most powerfull ones, so that should not be a call to avoid shared servers

The more modules, products, and features in your shop will require more hosting power. That is a simple fact. It is like trying to run windows 7 on a 233 pentium. It is going to be slow. Windows 95 was pretty quick on a system like that though, but it didn't have as many features as windows 7.

The more you want to do with your shop, the more power it is going to take. There is no guide to how much power it will take because their are too many variables with each shop.

@dolke, first let me say unless you post every detail (things you have tried), you existing hosting specifications etc...then it's really hard to help you. Without review of your other posts, I suspect that you do not put enough detail in your threads for the community to help you fully.

I recommend that you read:

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/256751-read-first-forum-rules-and-best-practices/

In this guide you will learn what things are best to reveal, in your case the back office information concerning your server/php level/etc.

Thank you both for your thoughts.

@Dh42

I'm quite aware of what you stated in the post above, but I don't use 3rd party modules, I don't have any true core modifications and I have quite small number of products compared to other shops out there and almost every hosting solution that I tried doesn't fit in what is called normal website response and behavior.

It is more then obvious that Prestashop in its most lightest state and with just few products need some bad ass VPS server or dedicated server.

@El Patron

Dh42 is familiar with most of the things I done, it would be really hard to explain all the details here as I'm currently trying my website on 3 different hosting providers. Thank you for the link, I will take some time this weekend to go through it.

I also found out for example that Prestashop 1.5.4.1 doesn't work initially on the servers with php 5.4.x

In conclusion:

People who doesn't have problems with their hosting providers and servers and concentrate on their actual content are very lucky from my point of view. Instead of making my business I'm spending tons of time babysitting prestashop and my content, SEO and all other more important things are suffering.

Thanks guys.
