Lots of guest but no registrations and abandoned carts

Recommended Posts

My site has only been online since June and really only got serious in late July.

After getting my site on Google AdWords I have seen a drastic increase in trafic. I'm sure they are real people because I have the Google bill to prove it. :)

However, I have only had one person actually go through the registration process. I see many abandoned carts and I have never had a sale. I use PalPal to process payments. It seems to be working. Am I missing something?

I am using a custom theme. I would like some feedback or ideas as to what is going on.

The URL is http://kakkysonline.com

If you have time please test it for me and tell me what is wrong.

Here are my ideas. I think the people do not want to enter their information on a non SSL page to create a user account.

So they drop the cart. I can't make the guest checkout work with Paypal. It just doesn't work for me.

Anyway, please checkout my site. Maybe it's just ugly?

Thanks,

Bitmess

Hi Bitmess,

Had a look at your site. I can't find any obvious problems, errors or so. The site is fast enough, redraws neatly.

If I have to comment a few things, these are it:

When buying a product and checkout. Before you register, there is no shipping price set yet (as you don't know where I live, so that is correct). After registering, the shipping price adds to it. When buying a 36$ product, it adds another 6.xx $ to it (I added New York as city of residence.), which might scare the people away. A second product doesn't add up to the shipping price a lot, but the 'first product' shipping-costs are quite high.

I would suggest to somehow try to lower the shipping costs. Easily said, but maybe hard to do. Not sure if there are other carriers available which can ship cheaper...

Other option might be to do some promotion about shipping (say order for more than xx$, free shipping) or so. People love free shipping.

A last point: The background colour of your site. It's quite a 'dark' site, which I personally wouldn't do. Maybe try to experiment with lighter colours, to make the site more 'friendly' looking. Just my idea, though...

Sorry to not be of more directly useful help. If you have any additional question, things to test, need another opinion, just ask.

These are good suggestions. PascalVG, The item you added to your cart was the heaviest stun gun on the site at over 1 lb so it had to be sent Parcel Select or Priority Mail. I will work on shipping.

I was thinking maybe to add a voucher to some products that would cover most if not all of the shipping cost. Only because that would be easy and more fair to the international customers as they would get the same discount as domestic customers. I'm open to suggestions.

I actually have a shipping estimator installed. You have to click on a product and enter your zip code. It will then calculate freight for the items that are in your cart as well as any that you add later. I think the shipping estimator should be in the cart as well as the product pages. It's the USPS module by PrestoChango.

I'll work on the logo and lighten the theme a bit.

I still would like more feedback so keep it coming.

Thanks,

Bitmess

custom.css line 232 change / remove background param:

body {
background-image: url('../img/design/background.jpg') !important;
background-repeat: repeat !important;
}

in the future please create separate threads for your additional questions not related to the main case in this topc. (see forum rules: 1 thread = 1 question)

thanks in advance
