product catalog | product-combinations vs. full products

We are seeking for advice/recommendations/comments regarding how to best register our products in our new Prestashop (1.5.4.1).

 

Whether to register all products as full products, or to use the attributes function to create product-combinations !?

And in case of not-using the product-combinations, then how to display the corresponding product options/attributes on the single-product-page, e.g. is there a suitable module (a product-customize-module) !?

 

As we are new to Prestashop and e-commerce, we wonder about the pros and cons of product-combinations vs full products.

P.S. Here more about the our webshop circumstances:

Our product is made of an outer part (outer) and a inner part (inner), together they make up one product.

Our catalog currently holds 6 different outers, and 60 different inners.

The outer-part component will not increase much in variations the next years (will stay less then 10), the inner-part component definitely will increase in variations (maybe 200-300).

Currently we hold a total of 360 products (combinations of 6 outer x 60 inner).

The question is whether to register 360 products, or 60 products with 6 attributes.

We have product pictures of all product-combinations (2 images per product, so 720).

Generally the focus of the webshop is intended to be on customizable products (combine-your-own-product out of 2 components/attributes).

For the future we wish to find a powerful module to display that "combine-your-own-product" feature on a designated page in the webshop.

But for the start that module/page it is not absolutely necessary. Yet the catalog structure, and the functionality of the single-product-page are the very basis to start!

Nevertheless any information about modules for product-customization is super appreciated!

You don't need any extra powerful modules - all the requirements stated above can be met by the product combinations functionality within a standard prestashop installation.

 

The customer will be able to make their own combination on the product page.

It's better to have 1 product with all the variations, than multiple virtually identical pages that would hurt your SEO

We are actually working on a module that would list all attribute variations in the product list, they all link to the same product, but lets the customer see all colors and order directly from the product list page.

It may take a month or two before the module is ready though.

I discovered this/your other module "Attribute Wizard Pro"...

it solves so many issues for our customizable-product-situation. Really excellent!

The "layered attribute images", and the attributes/components stocks control, among others, are just AMAZING.

 

It is a 95% exactly what we need ;-)

The only feature that misses for us, would be exactly be this flexibility of the new module you wrote about, to show combinations in the product list. Ideally (would be for us) not ALL combinations, yet a "show" option for each combination! And super-ideally also the option to potentially set them as "featured" products.

 

Attribute Wizard Pro + this new module functionality = would be a real blessing :-)
