Can bots / crawlers / spiders make orders?

Hey all,

Well I am kind of intrigued by a situation here:

I have my shop enabled only for my country (for now), Spain, People from elsewhere can access the store but cannot buy.

I have only registered customers able to buy too. Visitors / guests cannot.

Thing is, I see in my shopping carts section, a repeated and constant VISITOR / GUEST cart of the same exact items order & amount over many days, and I am asking myself if bots etc... Do make fake orders to test the site?

Thanks and cheers y'all!

well,

technically they can. But it is almost impossible due to the:

  1. it's necessary to create an account
  2. login in
  3. fill the address form with correct field
  4. select the carrier (if bot fill address form with incorrect fields it will not see carriers)
  5. select payment method
  6. confirm the order

adding to cart is a simple operation, so they are able to add stuff to cart... but whole order... it is to difficult;)

As usual, thanks Vekia. Always there for us man!

Mmmm... I don't know what to think about this "mysterious" guest repeated orders then... :S

What do you think about opening store to guests... I am a bit paranoied on being hacked, frauded etc... That's why I only grant shopping to registered users...

Cheers Vekia!

Well Vekia, thes laqst days is just add to cart, sorry for the confusion.

But one strange thing happened to me some weeks ago, before these add to cart, and it looks like the same order:

I hade 4 messages (4 tries I guess) from paypal that an error ocurred with a paypal order attempt. I checked up my store and saw that a guest / visitor had tried to make that order, which should be impossible as I got that disabled like I said!!!!

So I wanted to find more about that as it is very strange and tried to contact paypal several times but, of course, never got an answer / follow-up on my inquiry :(

The only thing I could do is try to guess who was the guest by checking visitors origin + ip around the time those "phantom" purchase attempts had been made, and found out 2 "suspects" one from China, the other from Beverly hills... Which is, again, impossible as for customers outside Spain, shopping is disabled!

Very strange... Anyway if it was a legitimate purchase attempt (but it's impossible!) I lost a chance of a 600 euro approx. sale!
