Sphyrna
Hi, This is my first experience with Prestashop. I intended to load by ftp, but it was taking too long, and I found the application listed on my host. I've loaded everything and it seems to be working, back shop a front shop, however I never saw the install/setup screen. Do I just have to go through the program and set all of these setting separately? It also created its own databases and I not sure which it is pointing to at the moment. I tried loading the install file after the domain name and it said it did not exist. Am I making this too hard? Also, is allow_url_fopen to be left on all the time? Isn't this dangerous? Any guidance would be appreciated, Elizabeth Edited August 2, 2013 by Sphyrna (see edit history)
vekia
if you installed your prestashop from installator like softaculous / scriptaculous etc. you don't have to install it again from /install/ directory. You're prestashop is ready to use

Sphyrna
Okay, one more question. I clicked the box to install the cart on the https directory, it is showing in the http, but when you go to the store link it does not forward as it should to the store closed page, it shows a "Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server." error. Did I put it in the wrong directory and will I be able to the the secure pages for check out if it is installed in the http directory? Sorry, newbie questions. Thanks. Sphyrna
I think I figured this out. I think the default of putting it in /prestashop directory has caused the page not to load normally, i.e., directly from the site url. What about the installation in the https directory, it this recommended or not? Thanks! vekia
well. it's not necessary. but if you have got ssl certificate - it is a good practice, when you're using ssl certificate you look more credible and professional

Sphyrna
Hi Vekia, Yes! And I must say after a very frustrating few days trying to debug avactis free, I am very much impressed with Prestashop. A question: Is it necessary to leave allow_furl_open on after installation? My server says this can be a vulnerability. It has been a little bit of a roller coaster ride figuring all of this out, but thanks to you and our server I have had some very kind and understanding support to lead me through all of my silly mistakes. I now have to customize the webpage and load the catalog and I think we will almost be ready for prime time. Thank you for you help.
