Curran
Sorry, this is probably a completely stufpid question.... I am currently running PrestaShop 1.4.6.2 and on my Dashboard it says "New version of PrestaShop is available! : Download 1.5.4.1 stable ! If I click this and choose to upgrade to this newer version, will all my products, customer details, etc, etc, transfer / populate without any issues or extra work?? Is there much extra benefit to upgrading, or should I not risk it, in case it causes a problem that I wont be able to fix? Thanks in advance! benjamin utterback
Are you happy with your store at the moment? Do you feel like you need to upgrade? How customized is your website? Updating to a new major release can be tricky, you should not do it unless you have considered all options.
Curran
I am very happy at the moment! I wouldnt say its very customised....pretty much the basic package, with one or two add ons I just thought I was missing out on some features and options....and the options of fresh new themes. Although, Im happy to keep it the way it is.
benjamin utterback
Well, you can definitely test and upgrade. Make sure to backup your SQL Database and PrestaShop Files.... Duplicate your store onto a localhost or test domain, and try the upgrade! Because you have the backup and you are using a duplicate test store of your live store, there is minimal risk if any. You should first upgrade to 1.4.11. From there, you should upgrade to 1.5.4.

tannerS
Create a new copy and upgrade a SEPERATE site than your active one. Upgrades are unpredictible, modules and themes can be show stoppers sometimes. Do not upgrade a live money making site, copy and upgrade the copy first and check for issues... Never Upgrade a Live Site until you go through the test upgrade on your copied store.
